Performing Arts Special Interest Group meeting: 27 and 28 September 2010
The annual meeting of the Performing Arts Special Interest Group of Museums
Australia (PASIG) will this year be held in Melbourne on the two days preceding the Museums Australia National Conference. In true PASIG tradition the meeting will be held in two superb theatrical and musical locations, where the usual range of engaging papers and presentations will take place. Presentations on the venues and their rich history, and tours of the buildings, will be included.

Monday 27 September: The Betty Pounder Room, Her Majesty’s Theatre
www.hmt.com.au
‘The Maj’ is one of Melbourne’s theatrical heritage jewels, the flagship of J.C. Williamson Ltd for many years where it premiered all its big musicals. In recent years under the stewardship of Mike Walsh OBE it has been beautifully restored and refurbished in all its art deco glory.  The Betty Pounder Room is named in honour of the beloved dancer and choreographer who worked with JCW for many years.

PASIG conference dinner is planned for Monday evening – venue and cost yet to be confirmed

Tuesday 28 September: Grainger Museum, University of Melbourne www.lib.unimelb.edu.au/collections/grainger/
The Grainger Museum has been closed for conservation works and will just be re-opened by the time of the PASIG meeting. Conceived by Grainger himself as an autobiographical museum it contains over 100,000 diverse items relating to his career, ethnomusicology, experimental music, art, furniture, costumes and much else.

Meeting costs
Attending both days: MA members $70; non-MA members $80.
Attending Day 1 only: MA members $40; non-MA members $45.
Attending Day 2 only: MA members $30; non-MA members $35.

Registration
Registration and payment can be made at the PASIG meeting. However, the organisers require an early indication of numbers, in particular for the two additional events—Beleura and Mary Poppins—to confirm viability. Please contact Richard Stone, Chairman, PASIG, on randj@webone.com.au or (02) 62812679.
